The New Evangelisation for the Transmission of the Christian Faith

In Rome at the moment there is a Synod of Bishops discussing the "New Evangelisation for the Transmission of the Christian Faith" at the start of the Year of Faith.
This short video really gets to the point of:
How secularisation has destabilised the core of what makes our Society and Culture
How we as Catholic have not managed react to this, in explaining Christ and His Church, we ended up "catechising without content", not "rooted in the Creed"
We need to "call people to the Church" by speaking out of our identify - as Catholics

The Motherhood of Our Lady

Introit:
Ecce, Virgo concipiet, et pariet filium, et vocabitur nomen ejus Emmanuel.
Behold, the virgin shall be with child and shall bear a son, and he shall be called Emanuel.

Cantate Domino canticum novum: quia mirabilia fecit.

Sing the Lord a new song, a song of wonder at his doings.

Bl Pope John XXIII opened the Second Vatican Council on this Marian feast with these words:

"Mother Church rejoices that, by the singular gift of Divine Providence, the longed-for day has finally dawned when--under the auspices of the virgin Mother of God, whose maternal dignity is commemorated on this feast--the Second Vatican Ecumenical Council is solemnly opened beside Saint Peter's tomb."

The Feast was instituted by Pope Pius XI in 1931 for the whole Latin Church, on the occasion of the 15th centenary of the Council Ephesus, in 431, which proclaimed the Virgin Mary Theotokos, the God-bearer. The term was adopted as a way to assert the Divinity of Christ from which it follows that what is predicated of Christ is predicated of God. So, if Mary is the mother of Jesus, she is the Mother of God.

The Feast was moved to the 1st of January in the Ordinary Form of the Roman Rite, it remains on this day in the Extraordinary Form.

A Parish Blog

The Second Vatican Council opened 50 years ago today, for our parish it is also a special day, The Feast of the Motherhood of Our Lady. This was (and in the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite is) our parish patronal feast day.

So on this important feast day this blog has been initiated. The initial plan is to publish the weekly bulletin and in the future, post about parish, diocesan and wider Church events. It is also hope that this can become a parish resource, so that we can better know what is going on in the Church.

Central to the life of the Church is the liturgy, therefore information about the Liturgy will also feature in the blog. The liturgy is central to our life, in particular the Eucharist, as “the Source and the Summit of the Christian life” (CCC 1324). By understanding what the Church says about our liturgy we can better foster a liturgical life in the parish, which is vital to the rest of the work of the Church.
